G. Instructional Technology

Media and Instructional Technology Services (MITS) is located in the Instructional Media Center, room SB-8, McGregory Hall. Its primary mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of educational communications by providing trained support personnel, instructional materials, audiovisual equipment, specially designed facilities, technical assistance, and expert consultation. Support is also provided for administrative and extracurricular programs.

1. Services Services provided by MITS include an instructional media library; media acquisitions (purchases and rentals); viewing facilities; presentation assistance; equipment purchases and loans; audiovisual supplies distribution; closed-circuit, cable and satellite television services; media production; videoconferencing; and, consulting.

2. Policies

a. Media Acquisitions Submit orders for non-print instructional materials (purchases and rentals) to the Media Acquisitions Coordinator, ext. 7858. Purchased items will belong to the university and will be housed in the instructional materials library for circulation. Exceptions may be granted in the case of highly specialized materials that will be used frequently within a department. Faculty and representatives of officially recognized student organizations may borrow materials for educational use. They may not be used for public performance or other displays in violation of copyright laws. Materials may be viewed in the Instructional Media Center or in Case Library viewing facilities for teaching, scholarship or research purposes. Reservations should be made in advance by calling ext. 7239

b. Equipment Loans A variety of audiovisual equipment may be borrowed on a short-term basis by faculty, students and staff. Loans to students are for preparation and/or presentation of class projects. Please schedule equipment use at least 48 hours in advance by calling the Media Services Coordinator at ext. 7239.

c. Facilities Use Technology equipped facilities may normally be reserved only for academic activities or for non-academic activities that require the use of the specialized equipment. Access to, and use of, projection booths and audiovisual systems is restricted to faculty and students who have been trained by MITS in the proper operation of the facilities.

d. Copyright Laws Federal laws restrict the use and duplication of copyrighted materials. Neither MITS nor the University will condone illegal use of copyrighted materials.
